Yes, yes, YES!!

Not only do you have to wash your face in the morning AND at night, there are a few other tips I recommend to keep your skin looking refreshed, healthy, and glowing.

Alright y’all here’s the low down on your skin….

Wash your face every night! During the day we collect dirt, debris, and oils on our skin. Just think of everything you touch during the day. There’s no question that all of that ends up on your face at some point. That alone should make you want to run to the sink and wash your skin right now!

If that is the one thing you do, then great! I’d recommend using a gentle cleanser rather than dove or soaps that have harsh chemicals that can dry out your skin. My favorite brands are ZO skin health, Skinceuticals, Elta MD, Skinmedica, Skinbetter. You can’t really go wrong here.

If you are up for the challenge of doing one extra thing, you should add a sunscreen to your regimen.

Follow these important tips:

  • Rain or shine, indoors or outdoors, wear sunscreen on exposed skin EVERY day.
  • Everyone should wear sunscreen regardless of age and skin color.
  • Reapply every 2 hours, especially if outdoors or sweating.
  • Use broad-spectrum sunscreens that protect against UVA and UVB rays.
  • The American Academy of Dermatology recommendations at least an SPF of 30.

Okay, do you feel inspired to go the extra step? Maybe one more step? Here it is folks. Add in a retinoid, retinol, or other vitamin A derivative. I’d recommend adding this in in your early 30’s/ late 20’s. The retinol increases cell turnover, causing shedding of the outer unhealthy layers, unclogs pores (especially important for that acne prone skin), and increases/strengthens collagen in your skin. This improves fine lines and allows for improved skin quality as we age. Now who doesn’t want that??!! My favs are ZO skin brightener and SkinBetter Face but a prescription tretinoin works as well.

Just a reminder with the retinols though! There is an acclimation period so it’s not unusual to have some peeling or skin irritation. You might even notice that your problem areas get worse before they get better. Don’t give up and don’t worry, once you turn the corner, you will love the results. LOVE!

I’ll just let those three tips simmer…. I’ve got a lot more skin care recommendations (antioxidants, etc, etc) but for now, just get started on this. Can’t wait for you to see the transformation with just these minor changes!! We’ll talk soon…
