What’s a mommy makeover?

What’s a mommy makeover you might ask? That’s a great question.  Well, let’s start from the beginning.  Our bodies undergo tremendous and beautiful changes during pregnancy and breastfeeding.  Our hormonal makeup changes so that we can grow a healthy baby and then provide nutrition to them.  Our abdomen stretches including the skin and underlying muscles to give the baby room to grow. Our breasts enlarge to allow milk production.  Now when all is said and done, oftentimes, our bodies do not return to what they once were.  We might develop loose abdominal skin, stretch marks, weakened abdominal muscles or diastasis recti. Our breasts also may not shrink back up to their former perkier selves.  They also may have loose skin, sag, or deflate and become much smaller than there were previously.  All of these changes are normal and expected.

A mommy makeover can address these changes. It is a term that was created to describe the various surgeries that are combined to address some of the changes that occur to our breasts and bodies with pregnancy and/or breastfeeding.  A tummy tuck (abdominoplasty) or liposuction may be required for the abdomen or a breast lift, breast reduction, breast augmentation or combination may be required for the abdomen.  The combination of procedures varies per individual and is based on the changes your body underwent and what your personal goals are.

If you are thinking about this, consult with a board-certified plastic surgeon to educate yourself and see if this is the right option for you!
