I had a scar revision performed by Dr. Smita.  She was very knowledgeable and I felt very safe going forward with the procedure.  I was nervous about having the procedure but she immediately calmed my nerves after having a consultation.  The second service I have received there is micro-needling.  Ashley is amazing. Again, very knowledgeable and answered every question before I went through with it.  I have had three sessions so far and plan to continue going for maintenance.  I want to also point out that they’re  incredibly professional and polished, yet still very affordable. I wanted filler and Dr Smita advised against it “you don’t need it and it would end up just looking odd”. So appreciate her honesty and integrity. Can’t recommend her highly enough .

Variations of Chemical Peels

In our New Jersey office, we offer chemical peels in various strengths (light, medium, and deep) to accommodate our patients’ skin goals.

Light peels: You can receive a light peel on a lunch hour and go right back to your routine. This type of peel will remove the outer layer of your skin (the epidermis), giving your facial features a more radiant appearance and smoother texture. We usually recommend that you schedule a light peel at least once a month for the ideal glowing results.
Medium-depth peels: This type of peel goes further into the skin, and patients generally decide to have this type of facial treatment during an extended weekend. You may also want to ready yourself for increased discomfort during and about one hour following the treatment. Medium-depth peels are for patients who have deeper damage to their skin, like deeper lines and darker pigmentation problems.
Deep peels: The strongest of the three levels of peels is the deep peel, and it does require the longest recovery time. This is an aggressive treatment that may leave your face swollen, peeling, and itchy for a few weeks. Patients who have a deep chemical peel typically have age or dark spots, sun damage, entrenched acne scars, and/or deep scars. Since this type of chemical peel is generally uncomfortable for patients so your aesthetician may provide you with anesthetic as a part of your treatment.

Ideal Candidates For Chemical Peels

Seeking the advice of a skin specialist is the first part of the journey to smooth, healthy skin. A team member at our practice will evaluate your skin during an examination in our New Jersey office before selecting a chemical peel for optimal results. Chemical peel patients, both men and women, will have visible issues with their skin, such as scars, rough patches, hyperpigmentation, flaky skin, sun spots, fine lines, wrinkles, and more. We can recommend different levels of peels to meet your goals.

Procedure Technique

On the day of your appointment, we will have you lying in a comfortable position to administer your treatment. A team member will ensure the skin is cleaned prior to applying the personalized solution to the face and/or neck. We will brush the solution onto the skin and allow it to work for an appropriate length of time that will be determined in your chemical peel consultation. Then, we will clean the peel off your skin and put on a neutralizing agent. Patients may want to bring sunscreen and a hat to wear outside following the treatment to avoid sun exposure.

What to Expect During Your Chemical Peel

Based on the type of chemical peel you receive, you should expect your skin to peel and itch from several days to two or more weeks. Dr. Ramanadham or a member of her team will talk about how to treat your face during your appointment. Please remember that no matter how badly your skin itches throughout the healing process, it is not a good idea to pull the skin off. You may create scarring to your facial skin!

How much does a chemical peel cost?

Dr. Ramanadham can discuss your costs during your consultation once she has decided on your personalized treatment plan. Costs for a chemical peel will vary, depending on the intensity you choose. Our practice also accepts several payment methods, and we often run specials on skin treatments, like chemical peels. Buying a package with several chemical peel treatments can also help you save money.

What level should I choose for my chemical peels?

Which level of chemical peel is best for you will vary based on your specific skin concerns and aesthetic goals. In your initial consultation with Dr. Ramanadham, she can help you decide which chemical peel is best for your skin. A few things you might want to consider are your general health, the type of skin you have, the depth of your skin concerns, the time you can commit to recovery, and what you want the peel to accomplish. For your first peel, it is better to try a light chemical peel and decide what you think of the results. After this, you and Dr. Ramanadham can adjust your treatment plan to find the best type of peel for you.

Should I get a chemical peels or dermabrasion treatment?

Both dermabrasion and chemical peels are facial treatments that treat surface irregularities to make your skin a softer appearance. The difference is that dermabrasion requires special tools (a shaving instrument or rotating brush) to clear away the surface skin layer with a careful exfoliating process. A chemical peel applies a caustic solution to your skin to dissolve dead skin cells. In your initial consultation, Dr. Ramanadham will discuss the pros and cons of each and help you choose if dermabrasion or a chemical peel is best for your skin goals.

Will my face hurt after a chemical peels?

Based on the peel selected, you might feel mild discomfort during the application process. If you get a light peel, you will notice a little discomfort; however, this can be alleviated with the use of a small fan. Deep or medium peels are better for deeper skin issues and longer-lasting results; however, they can cause greater discomfort. Numbing cream, skin medications, and soothing ointments may be used to help you feel more comfortable during your chemical peel. Dr. Ramanadham or a member of her team will discuss how to care for your skin after a peel to maintain your results.

Can I combine a chemical peel with other treatments?

A chemical peel may be combined with another nonsurgical skin treatment at our facility. In your initial consultation, be open with Dr. Ramanadham when describing your skin problems so she can develop a comprehensive treatment plan that delivers your best results. Your plan might include adding an injectable treatment for wrinkles (such as Juvéderm or BOTOX), plus a chemical peel to refresh your entire face.
