How Much Does Rhinoplasty Cost?

How Much Does Rhinoplasty Cost

One of the first topics patients want to discuss when they come in for their nose job consultation is rhinoplasty cost. Unfortunately, there is no single answer to this question.

In fact, you might even say that asking, “How much does a rhinoplasty cost?” is very similar to asking, “How much does a house cost?”

No one is going to give you a simple answer to the question of how much a house costs because there are simply too many variables to consider. The same goes for rhinoplasty. And this is why it’s so important for a plastic surgeon to sit down with a client first before diving into specific costs.

If you have already given rhinoplasty plenty of thought and are ready to embark on your journey, your next step should be to schedule a consultation appointment with a board certified plastic surgeon who is experienced with this procedure. Your appointment will give you a lot of necessary information, and you can also learn how much your surgery is expected to be.

For now, let’s review the main cost factors that contribute to the cost of rhinoplasty. We’ll also answer some of the most common questions related to rhinoplasty pricing and financing options.

First and foremost, however, let’s talk about the two main types of rhinoplasty as this distinction will make a world of difference when it comes to cost.

Types of Rhinoplasty

Many people are unaware that there are actually two different types of rhinoplasty: surgical rhinoplasty and non surgical rhinoplasty.

Surgical Rhinoplasty

The surgical procedure is what most people think of when they think of cosmetic rhinoplasty. In fact, surgical rhinoplasty can be used for cosmetic or functional purposes.

Cosmetic rhinoplasty corrects aesthetic concerns of the patient. Functional rhinoplasty is a form of reconstructive surgery that helps the patient’s nasal passageways work better for improved breathing, sleeping, eating, etc. You can have an open or closed rhinoplasty.

The distinguishing feature of surgical rhinoplasty is that it is invasive rhinoplasty surgery. This means it involves general anesthesia, incisions, physical changes to the nasal structure, and a considerable rhinoplasty recovery time. The changes made during rhinoplasty can be significant and are permanent.

Non Surgical Rhinoplasty

Non surgical rhinoplasty, sometimes called liquid rhinoplasty, is performed not with incisions and structural changes, but with injectables or dermal fillers. Varying materials, such as hyaluronic acid, can be used to basically augment certain areas of the nose and achieve a more balanced and/or aesthetic appearance.

Unlike surgical rhinoplasty, non surgical rhinoplasty can only achieve minimal changes to the appearance — and not the function — of the nose. For example, it can sometimes help with nasal asymmetry (a crooked nose) or with smoothing out a dorsal hump.

The benefits are first, that it’s a fast procedure (it can usually be performed in-office in 30 minutes or less). It’s also considerably less expensive than rhinoplasty surgery. And finally, it’s temporary, so patients can get this procedure, then decide whether they like the changes, and if they don’t, it can be reversed.

Unfortunately, the temporary nature of this procedure is also a drawback for some. Results usually last just six months to a year, so patients will always need to redo the procedure if they want to maintain their look.

3 Factors Primarily Determine Rhinoplasty Cost

Naturally, the most important determining factor when it comes to rhinoplasty cost is the type of surgery. Liquid rhinoplasty is notably less expensive than the surgical procedure.

For the purpose of this content, we will solely be discussing cost factors affecting the price of surgical rhinoplasty. These are the three main determining factors:

#1 – The Cost of the Operating Room (Facility Fees)

Hospitals and facilities charge for the use of their space, equipment, tools and supplies, staff, etc. based on what your surgery is and how long you will be in the operating room and recovery room.

If you plan to have a rhinoplasty and chin liposuction, for example, the operation will be longer overall, and thus your surgery will be more expensive from this perspective.

#2 – The Cost of Being Under Anesthesia

Rhinoplasty costs are also largely impacted by the type of anesthesia you require and how long you must be under anesthesia and monitored by a professional.

General anesthesia is required for rhinoplasty surgery, so you’ll have to have an anesthesiologist administering anesthesia and closely monitoring you throughout your procedure. Often, rhinoplasty surgeons have certain anesthesiologists they work with regularly.

#3 – Your Surgeon’s Fee

Lastly, as with all plastic surgeries, you’ll need to account for your surgeon’s fee. Most surgeons adjust their fees based on their level of training, certifications, experience, expertise, and location. In fact, geographic location can play a big role, with more metropolitan surgeons charging more because of the higher general cost of living where they are.

Sometimes, surgeons will factor in the cost of the consultation, medical tests, prescriptions, postoperative recovery equipment, follow up appointments, and other required items associated with nose jobs.

FAQ: The Rhinoplasty Procedure and Cost

Will health insurance cover rhinoplasty procedures?

Sometimes. If the patient needs rhinoplasty to fix breathing issues (such as a deviated septum) or to correct a broken nose after an accident, the procedure can sometimes be covered by insurance. It all depends on your provider and plan, though. Patients and their plastic surgeons will need to work with health insurance providers to meet the necessary requirements, however.

How much should I budget for a nose job?

This naturally depends on the cost of your surgery. Nose surgery will be thousands of dollars, but the exact amount will be determined by your surgeon, probably at the consultation appointment you have at their plastic surgery practice. Once you know the estimated amount, you can start looking over your budget.

How much does rhinoplasty cost if it’s non surgical?

Non surgical rhinoplasty is still a plastic surgery procedure, so it will cost several thousand dollars, on average. However, this cosmetic surgery is far less expensive than primary rhinoplasty (rhinoplasty surgery). You should always meet with at least a few board certified plastic surgeons to get several estimates on the cost of your anticipated cosmetic procedures.

How Much Does A Rhinoplasty CostInterested in rhinoplasty?

Your nose is the most prominent facial feature you have. Treat it well, and do not go with a less-than-qualified surgeon just because they’re charging less. This facial plastic surgery absolutely must be performed by a rhinoplasty surgeon who has extensive experience and skill. Otherwise, you risk needing revision rhinoplasty, which can actually be far more expensive in the end.

Because rhinoplasty before and after photos can sometimes be difficult to find online (people often don’t like to show their face), your surgeon can show you more extensive photo galleries at your consultation appointment. This can help you get an idea of what can be achieved with this surgery.
