Microneedling Before and After FAQs

Microneedling before and after pictures show patients with improved wrinkles, fine lines, sun spots, sagging skin, large pores, acne, scars, stretch marks, and more. The truth is, microneedling can really help with a wide variety of skin concerns and is excellent for many types of patients.

In this article, we’ll answer some of the most common questions from patients regarding microneedling in New Jersey. But before we dive in, what is microneedling?

Microneedling: An Overview

Sometimes called “collagen induction therapy”, microneedling is a cosmetic treatment that aims to stimulate collagen production in an attempt to improve uneven skin tone and/or uneven skin texture.

The procedure involves making very small punctures to the skin. This is done with tiny needles in a microneedling pen. The needles are sterilized, and the process is essentially harmless. The resulting “injuries” induce the body to create new collagen-rich tissue, and this, in turn, improves the skin.

FAQ: Microneedling Before and After

What is RF microneedling?

RF microneedling, also known as radiofrequency microneedling, combines traditional microneedling with radiofrequency energy. Fine needles are utilized to create controlled micro-injuries in the skin. As with traditional microneedling, this stimulates the production of collagen and elastin.

On top of this, radiofrequency energy goes deep into the layers of the skin to further promote skin tightening and help produce collagen through stimulation of the skin. RF microneedling before and after images showcase the remarkable improvements in skin texture, reduction of fine lines and wrinkles, and overall rejuvenation achieved with this advanced.

Other additives can be used in conjunction with the microneedling process as well, including topical serums and even growth factors from your own blood (called microneedling PRP or platelet rich plasma). Combining microneedling with treatments like laser resurfacing is also sometimes done.

Does microneedling really work for wrinkles? Before And After Microneedling

Yes, microneedling benefits can be seen in creating more youthful skin. It has been shown to be effective for reducing the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines by stimulating collagen production, which can improve skin texture and promote overall skin rejuvenation.

Most patients are very happy with their results after microneedling. You will notice that in photos of microneedling before and after wrinkles are often far reduced in appearance, and the patients have more radiant skin in general.

Where can microneedling be performed on the body?

Microneedling can be performed almost anywhere on the body to improve skin quality. Most patients choose to undergo microneedling on the face, neck, and décolleté. However, it can be done on the hands, thighs, abdomen, and elsewhere.

Is microneedling painful?

Most patients will experience some minor discomfort rather than pain during microneedling sessions. Numbing cream is typically used during treatments, and patients who feel especially nervous or anxious may be able to request local anesthesia. After treatment, some slight tightness and tenderness may linger for a few days.

What is the microneedling healing process like?

Patients will have red, swollen skin following their microneedling procedures. However, this should only last for one day or a few at most. You should be able to go about your normal activities right away, but it’s also okay to take it easy for a day before returning to work or school.

What should you not do after microneedling?

Following your microneedling treatment, do not go out into the sun or you will risk sun damage and additional skin inflammation. Stay out of the sun for at least a few days, and after that, wear a high SPF.

You should also avoid wearing makeup and other skincare products right after your procedure — usually for the first day or so. Avoid touching your face or washing it. If you do want to cleanse your face, simply use tepid water to rinse and pat dry with a towel.

How long does microneedling take to show results?

While some results may be visible initially, your skin may also be red and swollen for approximately a day. Therefore, the majority of your results won’t be completely visible until after the initial recovery period. Most patients see their full results after about one to two months.

Acne Scars Before And After MicroneelingWhat are the side effects of microneedling?

Some patients may experience skin that is tight, dry, and warm after their procedure. However, the most significant side effects will be redness and some mild swelling immediately after the procedure. Rarely, the formation of scabs or dry flakiness may occur, but this should heal well in a short time.

Is one treatment enough to see improvements with microneedling?

Depending on your needs, you may require additional sessions to achieve your initial goals. Likewise, maintenance sessions are often necessary for longterm ideal outcomes.

If you take a look at photos of microneedling before and after 1 treatment, you’ll likely see that although there are some improvement, more significant improvement can be achieved through multiple microneedling treatment sessions.

What are the disadvantages of microneedling?

Certain individuals may not be good candidates for microneedling. In addition, patients will need to ensure they go to a reputable plastic surgeon or dermatologist for this procedure, or they could risk longterm scarring or the possibility of infection because of improperly sterilized equipment.

In addition, you may require multiple treatments, which can add to your microneedling cost and time spent recovering from each treatment.
